U2 in 3d
So I went to see U2 in 3d at the IMAX theater yesterday. For those of you who haven’t heard about this, U2 recorded their Vertigo tour stop in Buenes Aires, Argentina on IMAX film, in 3d. So I have to say that it was pretty awesome. I didn’t change my life, but it was one of the coolest things I have seen on film. From a technology standpoint, it was impeccable. The sound was perfect, and would be panned according to your view of the screen. If the camera shot shifted to Larry from behind the drum kit, then all of the drum would be panned correct, and the band on stage would be panned as well. If Bono walked across the stage in front of you, then his vocal would pan across with him. Pretty stellar.
What is it about U2 that makes them so much bigger than a band? I mean they have written some songs that have become world wide war chants, songs of hope and a better tomorrow. It’s crazy. And why do I cry every time I watch them perform Where the Streets Have No Name? I mean forget all of the political musings, and obscure theological references, there is something deeply stirring about their music and performances. Any thoughts?

listen to half the worship tunes out now and it seems they had a hand in influencing it, except they were doing it about 20 years ago. imho, they are the BEATLES of this century. larry is to U2 what ringo was to the BEATLES.
I saw this as well, and there were multiple times where I leaned over to my friend next to me and shouted in his ear “this is the coolest thing I have ever seen!” One memorable highlight for me was the song Love and Peace (with Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bullet the Blue Sky following). The 3D aspect on that was incredible with every band member being at a different depth on the stage. I also love the whole Zeppelin feeling of that song with the Tom/Cymbal combo and incredible bass line. I have been recommending this to everyone I see
I had no idea they had a 3D movie out! I’m going soon! Even if they won’t open admit it, God is using them to change the world. Just think of how many are turning to the poor, down-trodden and hopeless. At one awards ceremony Bono said, “If you want to find God, He is with the poor…” They will turn out to be one of the most influential bands to have ever played.
My wife and I saw the movie a few weeks ago. It was awesome. What made it cool for me, was that a friend of mine from high school was one of the producers. For those of you who have not seen the movie check it out.
I also saw the movie with my wife. Amazing. IMHO, U2 is one of those bands that focuses on combining simple musical parts to create their songs. Each member knows their part and how it compliments the other parts being played. They’ve always known the secret to drawing the listener in and keeping them engaged with the song.
