“Religion” is where people who have lost the ability to be real and honest go to feel important.

jeepers. so much to say… and such a topic of inner discussion in my life these days! won’t say everything, but God’s been teaching me a lot about “expectations” lately. how i hate when people have them of me, but i put so many of them on other people. and yesterday He and i were discussing how expectations are a part of religion and not relationship. that the bartering mentality of God will grant me this so long as i (fill in the blank), is something altogether other than He intended our relationships with Him and those around us to be. BUT because we as humans have such a fleshy desire for control, power, and things that make sense… we make up rules that define what things are. and so following Christ, somewhere along the way, turned into christianity as a religion. seriously… sorry this is long, but dude… it’s funny that you brought it up…
hhhmmmm. I can see that. I think it is possible that many use religion as a place or group to find acceptance without having to reveal all things. Unfortunately many will never open their hearts. Good thought provoking comment huh?
The full extent of what I’d like to say is too much for a comment. however, I love the line from messy spirituality.
Spirituality looks like whatever you and I look like when we’re thinking about Jesus, when we are trying to figure out what real Christianity looks like in the real world.
So I agree with the comment. People often get too clued in on the doing instead of the being and lose touch with reality.
religion is often linked to arrogance. and arrogance will always come before a fall, which is why God has been opening this thing up to me apparently. people like me, who often criticize those who are “religious” are often religious themselves because they would have to humble themselves to walk in a “traditional” church. we’re all alot more religious than we think, unfortunately. and that’s what i think. ha.
